Pregnancy Plan :
We want our patients to understand that a 4-month-recare (or 3 cleanings) are recommended when a patient is expecting to have a child. Hormones released during pregnancy puts the patient at increased risks of more severe cases of gingivitis and issues with their oral health overall. Additionally, for patients who have periodontal disease and are expecting, there are increased risks for there to be issues for their health such as pregnancy hypertension, as well as birth complications such as pre-term births and low birth weight of the child born. Therefore frequent recares and controlling periodontal condition is important to limit complications as much as possible.
Diabetes Plan:
We want our patients to understand that a 4-month-recare (or 3 cleanings) are recommended when a patient is diabetic. Diabetes and periodontal disease is a TWO-WAY STREET . Bacteria associated with gingivitis and periodontal disease increase the insulin resistance in diabetics, thus worsening their diabetic condition if the gum disease is not controlled. And likewise, increased insulin resistance increases risk of acute bacterial and viral infections, Chronic low-grade inflammation, and growth of periodontal bacteria in the oral cavity ultimately leading to a faster progression rate of periodontal disease.
In order to reduce risk of these outcomes more frequent, regular dental check-ups are necessary to the prevention/ progression of oral health complications.
